This series shows moments in the concrete Uji station of Kyoto, Japan, where sunlight funnels through brutalist openings and casts momentary spotlights onto passer-bys ascending, descending or moving in the station at different times of the day. The audience brings home visual souvenirs of fleeting moments of interplay between light, humans and a space for movement and commute. Individuals from all walks of life and at different moments of their life, like students, elderly, locals and tourists etc. were deliberately chosen, as every moment could be a spotlight of its own without noticing.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Gary is an architecture photographer whose work explores the relationship between lines, light and life. Through a refined geometric visual language, he captures the emotional and spatial poetry of the modern city.

His images were featured in GQ, Vogue, Tatler, Esquire, MingPaoWeekly etc., and he had shared his photography philosophy on RTHK and Commercial Radio HK. His first photography exhibition was held inside HSBC Main Building with HSBC in April 2026 to celebrate the building’s 40th birthday, and was attended by its legendary architect Lord Norman Foster.
