Ten years ago, visiting Aoiike Blue Pond in Biei, Hokkaido, drew me into a fascination with the quiet and uncanny force of northern landscapes. Months before beginning a new body of work, I had an idea: to explore “what comes after” the Japanese folk tale of Yuki-onna—not by recreating the story, but by giving it a new form within photography.
