The photographs are a blend. Two children play in a park. One child stares out a window in a yoga pose. The children are trapped in solitude. This is COVID. This is something the world experienced.
Except some went into the tear gas.
Between us is in the tear gas. It is at a combat line. Weapons are bare. Teeth are bare. But everyone is wearing masks. Covering their eyes. Breathing through filters. Standing behind shields.

Aaron Guy Leroux is an independent photojournalist and documentary photographer who travels the world covering protest movements, refugee crises, and other political and cultural issues. He is one of the co-founders of The Nature of Water collective of photojournalists and sits on the board of The Nature of Water Scholarship Fund. He has published two books, with a third --Between Us (Clawfoot Press, 2025), coming out in the Spring of 2025.
