Instead of portraying plants as mere parts of the urban landscape, this work observes the city through the eyes of the plants that live within it. From their perspective, it becomes clear that the affection humans believe they hold for plants is misguided and ultimately hollow. For the plants—dominant rulers of Earth—one must ask: do humans truly have any value?
The plants think, “THEY HATE US.”
The humans think, “THEY HATE US.”
Through 8x10 platinum-palladium prints, the true intentions of the plants and the existential worth of humankind are made visible.
I'm an artist and graphic designer living in Tokyo. In my production process, I visualize evidence to prove my hypothesis. I discovered that shooting large format 8x10 film with 100-year-old uncoated lenses and printing with platinum palladium was the best way to bring my images to life. Currently, I am mainly producing contact prints using 8x10-inch film, but I am looking to develop this in the future and realize more original expressions.
