The West African migration route to the Spanish Canary Islands has seen a sharp increase in the number of crossings, mainly involving young migrants from Senegal. This photostory tries to give an insight into the reasons and consequences of these attempts and includes portraits of a young man who wants to make the crossing with his mother, a professional female footballer who wants to work in Europe to buy a house for her family, a citizen who was beaten up by the police and wants to seek asylum and the president of an NGO arrested for asking questions about missing EU migration funds.
