The Masaya Volcano Crater was known by the early Spaniards as "The Gates of Hell" because local natives made human sacrifices by throwing people into the flowing lava. You can see the lava at its maximum splendor for the night tour, so you must arrive at 5 pm and wait approximately two hours to get access. I captured this one from one of two lookouts where I set up my tripod right on the edge. One of my favorite photos.
