Between the winter and spring of 2023, millions of French people took the streets to oppose the pensions reform wanted by President Macron. Mort au Roi was not born as a simple chronicle of events. The goal of my work is to tell a human experience that mixes legacies of the past, injustices of the present and desire of future. Through the images I have tried to convey that dialectic between monarchy and revolution, between authoritarian government and rebellious people that still today characterizes French politics, society and culture.

Alfonso Pinto (1983) is an independent geographer and documentary filmmaker. Born and raised in Italy, in 2011 he moved to France where he obtained a P.h.D. in geography and visual studies. From 2018 to 2022 he was researcher and cultural mediator at the Ecole Urbaine de Lyon where he dealt with the aesthetics, imaginaries and experiences of the Anthropocene. Author of numerous scientific and popular articles, in 2022 he published his first essay on industrial catastrophes. Together with François Xavier Destors he made the documentary Toxicily (2023). This is his first photographic work.
