Magma Chroma

Magma Chroma is a study of volcanic eruption clouds in technicolor, one in a series of seven photographs. Often natural disasters like volcano eruptions are sensationalized and capitalized upon, with disaster tourism and purchasable paraphernalia rampant in affected zones. This work is a tongue-in-cheek portrayal of the collective human obsession with nature’s greatest and most terrible forces, their ‘instagramability’ and our persistence in risking our lives for the perfect shot.

Brooke Holm is an Australian/American photographic artist born in California, USA. Her instinctual love for nature, environmental protection, sustainability, conservation and the desire to question the way things are, have largely contributed to her fine art practice and its constant evolution. Brooke is currently based in New York City where she continues to examine the relationship between humans and nature – and to find a voice within the climate crisis we all face.
