When winter comes, the ice shacks begin to appear on the frozen ice of the lakes & rivers of Canada. To capture these photographs, I would put on my nordic skis, and head out onto the ice with my camera. Sometimes I would find a solitary shack miles from any other, other times l'd come across a whole cluster of them like a tiny village on a barren landscape. Mostly I love the quiet solitude of being out on the ice. Alone with the sound of my skis and the wind to keep me company. The Ice Shacks series captures a little piece of Canadiana, and are a cultural archive of life in the North.
