Lunch Bars

  • Prize
    Bronze in Architecture/Buildings
  • Photographer
    Brett Leigh Dicks, Australia

Lunch bars are a staple of local working-class culinary culture.

Tucked away in the city’s suburban, industrial, and commercial areas, lunch bars have been sustaining the Western Australian work force with an array of no-frills fast food since the 1950s. For the past two years American/Australian photographer Brett Leigh Dicks has been documenting this quirky and vibrant slice of Western Australiana.

In an industry dominated by homogenous corporate chains, Lunch Bars celebrates the fierce independence and determination of small Australian family-owned businesses.
