Rise Up

Normally humpbacks are afraid of orca (killer) whales because orcas travel in pods and attack as one. Earlier in the summer of 2020 a pod of orca killed a humpback baby whale. However they communicated it, the humpbacks along the west coast of British Columbia and Alaska knew and weren't going to let it go. While out on the water this day, this particular humpback (known as Mathematician for his markings) decided to stand up to the orcas in the area and breached 20 times in 1 hour in a large circle, thus scaring off the pod. This is one of approx. 100 shots I was able to take that day.
