Altered

ALTERED is a body of photographic work that challenges our assumptions of beauty and what it means to be human. Focusing on a community of people who have unwillingly embarked on life-changing body alterations. The intention is to illuminate people who are often marginalised, and contribute to conversations around equality and diversity. The process aims to help individuals regain confidence and reclaim their identity, embracing the practice of the ‘therapeutic gaze’ – nurturing positive attitudes to their physical appearance and providing them with a visual voice to say, ‘I am here’.

MANON OUIMET is a London-based photographer. She is currently studying for an MA in Photography. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally. Ouimet’s passion for the human form is multi-disciplinary and explored via a wide range of contexts including fashion, portraiture, beauty, documentary and fine art. Using photography in a cathartic manner, her approach is essentially humanist and aims to change our perception of beauty - the photograph used as the 'therapeutic gaze'. Ouimet is currently working on a
