A young girl is running in a shanty neighborhood. Widespread urban violence that has plagued much of the Niger Delta in Nigeria has its roots in the corrupt, violent, and unaccountable nature of politics. The presence of the gang groups and their activities have increased the violence in urban areas such as Port Harcourt. Daily violence instigated by different cult/gang groups in forms of armed robberies, assaults, beatings, kidnappings, murders, and confrontations with law enforcement forces for the control of territory generates extreme suffering, vulnerability, and poverty.
