Sharing the Spanish island of paradise with the Dominican
Republic, few tourists venture to cross the Haitian border. Haiti
is a country of zombies, voodoo and magic. From July to
November is an enchanted island, in which Haitians whether
from Haiti or from the diaspora and the few adventurous
tourists can travel from village to village, completing the circuit
of the Haitian Religious Festival. It is a mixture of voodoo
practices, religious fervor and pure Catholic party and fun that
can remind of pilgrimages offered in the Middle Ages. Every
year on 16th July thousands of pilgrims make the religious
journey to the small village of Ville Bonheur and the nearby Saut
d’Eau waterfall. A few days after, on 25th July, thousands of
pilgrims move to the Bassin Saint Jacques at Plain du Nord (near
Cape Haitien).
Jordi Cohen is a documentary photographer based in Barcelona. With a Medical background, make fundamentally social reports. His work attempts to convey emotions linked to cultural aspects of different countries and civilizations.
