Una Donna

Una Donna is an on-going personal project started some years ago in San Francisco, whilst studying and experimenting with different types of film, camera and lighting technique and focusing on the concept and interpretation of Beauty.
Growing up in Italy one is influenced by the pursuit of beauty, whether it is through painting, architecture, design or even food. Through photography, I found my way to explore this concept, at times going back to the old teachings, at times exploring modern techniques, embracing and adapting to the multitude of changes that have happened in photography during the past decade.
This project started on colour film & transparencies, double exposures, mix-media and self-portraits, slowly shaping and developing into a large body of work that found its solid roots on the aesthetic, sensuality and femininity of women: one of my own interpretation of Beauty. Using the Light Painting technique to create this series, despite the initial difficulties, long hours of practice, camera exposures and exceptionally steady models, I could reach with light shades, shadows and contours that traditional lighting would not highlight and enhance. It brought women, their sensuality and femininity to life as they were coming out of the obscurity.

Born in Venice in 1972, now based in London.
