"I was born a boy, but will die as a woman, she says the day before the surgery that will change her life. She has traveled from Norway to take the last major step in a long process to finally become a woman. "I sacrifice a lot, but I have no alternative. I want a normal life, and people should just accept that I have a past as a boy." Four months after the gender confirming surgery she caught pneumonia and was critically ill. She died on the 25th June 2010, shortly after the government had approved her new name: Aira.
