when emotions fall silent

The people portrayed here suffer from eating disorders of varying nature and were undergoing treatment at a center specialized in this field.
For this essay I returned to the treatment center where I myself was a patient seven years ago.
The choice of location and personal portrayal was left entirely up to those portrayed.
People suffering from eating disorders tend to reduce themselves to the physical, thus I chose not to follow suit and distanced myself from portraying the physically exreme. Faces, emotions and actions reveal considerably more than protruding hip bones or colossal proportions. It was essential for me to show that regardless of the type of eating disorder involved, the body is in the end a symptom, and that the origin is to be found in the mind of the afflicted.
