Eenen ollen Boom plant man nich uem
For more than fifty years Marie -Luise Genz and Willi Rudi Alwin Genz have lived in Werbelow, a place near the border to the Uckermark region. In my photographic work I have been accompanying my grandparent's everyday life. It was my wish to develop an understanding of the kind of live they lived for more than half a century in a single place.
The following photographs provide an insight into life beyond the routine of urban cities, and they lead back to places of remembrance. A life divided up into housekeeping, gardening and cattle breeding, associated with the memory of a historic time determined by daily life in the GDR, the fall of the Berlin wall and the upheavals of the Wendezeit, that is the post 1989 turning point in history.
