Taken in Rotorua, New Zealand, Nov. 2007

I first started shooting in the 1980s with Kodak disc film, a relic now unlikely to find even a niche group of fans. After that clumsy start, I reconnected with my inner-artist?s eye through the looking glass of Nikon cameras. In 2005 I went digital and now shoot exclusively with a Hasselblad H3D-39. My self-taught photographic style and vision is a product of my prior life?s experience in marketing and technology, master photography classes, and a genuine curiosity about the complex dynamics
between our world?s human diversity and its natural environment.

My editorial and travel work is rich in color and diverse in subject matter. My fine art and personal work - wood, water, steel, glass - is similarly-hued. Although I work in digital, I use a light touch in editing and rely on the brilliance
of ambient light draped against the innate colors, textures and shapes of my subject matter. I find this process extraordinarily
challenging and meditative, always requiring me to travel lightly, to rise well before dawn to capture the goldenrod hues of a
day?s first sunlight, and to witness the world while its dwellers sleep. The reward is photography that draws viewers in and reveals the subject matter in ways that may surprise or enlighten.

In my travels I have been witness to a changing world, evolving exclusively at the hands of the people who inhabit it. We are re-shaping our landscapes, altering our climates, changing the color of our air and water. We are, in a sense, remodeling the world to better suit our current needs, sometimes jeapordizing its longevity. Far from placing value
judgements on this reality, I try to simply draw attention to it, attempt to find the beauty in it. I hope you find my work exciting
and engaging; but mostly, I hope viewers will come to see what I have seen, that my work might prompt reflection or even a conversation.
