Fishing is a massive industry around the continent of Africa and many millions of locals rely on the ocean for their survival. But in recent years fish stocks have become depleted. It's always fascinating to watch the local fishermen as they go about their daily work. Some head out to sea on boats with nets, others use handlines to haul in their catch. The small fish are sorted into bundles which are then sold in the markets. Some of the larger ones are sold to hotels and restaurants or auctioned off.

Born in Cape Town in 1961, Jeremy Jowell is a South African-based photographer and travel writer. The work he produces includes features with the emphasis on nature, travel, tourism, lifestyle and the leisure industry.

On moving to Johannesburg in 1991, he started working for a community newspaper as a journalist and photographer. Four years later, he left to pursue a career in freelance photography and travel writing.
