Dani tribe in the Balaam Valley in Highland Papua, Indonesia.
Despite the arrival of Christianity, Muslim Indonesians and modern way of life, the tribal chief is still highly respected and exercises great authority. The village people and tradition still revolves around him.
Men wear distinctive tribal attire, including face and body paint, feathers, animal bones and teeth, and penis sheaths called “koteka”.
Women wear skirts made from woven orchid fibres decorated with straw and woven bags, worn from the head, called 'noken'. Paint embellishes their face and body.
