Making Straws / An Dreoilín

This is about an ancient ritual & celebration of a contemporary identity on Europe's edge
Through dark winter months these people get together in pubs to weave these costumes made of straws which are paraded through the town on the shortest days of the year. A practice that used to be performed throughout Ireland and Europe
In Ireland it had its own significance and methodology
These preChristian landmarks at twilight signify the melding of night crafting and day parading
Aware of the power of knowledge and a continuing of culture,
this is about Belonging and Survival and passing on knowledge
