Devoted to Death

The Santa Muerte (Saint Death) is a cult image originating in Mexico, and she is the terribly powerful female personification of death, the most powerful of the Latin American folk saints.
For her devotees, death cannot be an evil, since it is part of nature itself, in the same way as life. Death is just and equal for all.
I wanted to estrange the context by removing the background and isolating the subject, creating a simple collage that becomes an abstract representation of an altar. It is a way of exploring spirituality and devotion in a personal visual form.
