While wandering through the Marais on a chilly, post-Christmas day, 2022, I came upon a little girl perched in a doorway engrossed in a book. Her posture, anachronistic dress, and passionate expression immediately captured my attention. I was already raising my camera when I suddenly recognized the cover image of the book she was so intimately involved with, and the impact was profound, fully aware that the neighborhood I was passing through was historically Jewish and that this girl herself could also be Jewish.
