Pandemic Series I-V

During the pandemic I spent a lot of time alone in Los Angeles in somber contemplation. During these bleak months and years, I often sought refuge on the beach at dusk and into the early hours of the evening. There were brave souls still out at these times which brought some sense of normalcy. These images were taken on on one of these evenings when the marine layer had brought a thick haze that obscured everything much like the general malaise that had descended on us all at that time. Still the lights shone through, reminding us of the possibility of better days ahead.

Originally from the east coast, I've called LA home for the last 10 years. I am an engineer by training and an avid photographer in my free time. I first learned how to work a camera on my dad’s Exakta Varex IIa back in the 1980’s, shooting black and white negatives and developing them in my high school dark room. For me part of the joy of taking pictures has always been in setting up the lighting and having an intuitive sense of the physical principles of imaging that lead to a compelling photograph. My work consists of Street Photography in and around Los Angeles, California, USA
