we celebrate Mae's 19th birthday. She is the youngest of my three daughters. We celebrate the birthday where we once lived, in Basel by the Rhine. She is the youngest of my three daughters.

The last three years we all had a hard time. These pictures of Mae's birthday are very special because the love, joy and confidence has now returned. My daughters are everything and everything and everything to me.

Nina Sommer is a Basel-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist. At the heart of her work is the observation of people, moments, and atmosphere. Guided by an intuitive sensitivity to light, presence, and timing, she creates photographs that combine documentary authenticity with a visual language.

Photography is the foundation of her artistic practice. Complemented by cyanotype and floral art, her work explores themes of impermanence, materiality, and memory. Moving between documentary observation and fine art, her images invite viewers to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.
