Somewhere in the Middle (a continuing work)

Despite many years away from home and my many relocations, I still identify as a Midwesterner. As our nation began its trudge through the current political divide, I felt disconnected from the place I once cherished. Eventually, my identity dissonance gave way to curiosity about the American central states' political and geographical landscapes. Since 2018, I've been crisscrossing the nation's center, traveling 30,000 miles by rural routes and state highways. These photos record explorations and encounters in the present cultural moment
