Stromboli

Human presence is rare, almost imperceptible, on Stromboli in winter.
Living here is a radical decision. The island exists independently of man, who lives according to the rules of 'Iddu' - 'it' in Sicilian dialect - the volcano. The few inhabitants devote themselves to 'masonry', which consists of renovating, building and cleaning while waiting for summer to come.
Lack of a safe and equipped harbour also makes it difficult for boats to moor in case of undertow or strong winds, further isolating the island. An atmosphere of nervous silence shrouds everything.
