While camping in Death Valley I was struck by the incredibly vast distances of the area. I spotted my wife walking alone along the road near the campsite just before sunrise so I stood on the tailgate of the truck to elevate the angle of view and capture a sense of space in the photo. I added the phone booth and telephone poles later to emphasize the isolation and distance.
