Part of an assignment titled 'Represent' for my Photography Degree course at Birmingham City University. This photo is of my mother-in-law, who is going through the early stages of dementia.

This photograph presents a poignant and emotive scene, evoking a range of feelings in the viewer. The dark background and Mary's aged appearance immediately convey a sense of melancholy and the passage of time. The presence of the old whippet dog, a faithful companion often associated with elderly people, further emphasises Mary's advanced age and the fact that she can no longer live independently.
