Starting with selfies that are posted to Instagram and tagged #selfiegay, I retake photographs using multiple exposure, intentional camera motion, and layering to create new portraits that are unpredictable and startling. With these techniques, I explore the intersection of photography and contemporary art to create evocative, painterly likenesses of personality and mood. This series considers how gay men see themselves and how they want to be seen by the world as they put themselves on public display. In the #Selfiegay series I consider masculinity, standards of beauty, and the gay male gaze.
Awards Recent awards include International Photography Awards (2019, 2020), International Color Award (2021), a Bronze Medal from ThePhotograph, and 2nd place and honorable mention for the WideWorld Photography Gala Awards. Colour Study #6 was awarded the 2020 Gracie Award, “Best in Show” from the International Society of Experimental Artists.
