At a time when unions were combined by the will of families, it was important to reach the altar without looking in the face, unless after swearing eternal love. In ancient times, therefore, the wedding veil concealed the real features of the spouses up to the exchange of their sentences for the promise of marriage. Here the veil struggles to conceal the beauty of the bride by embodying the girl's face itself.
