Spaces of absented presence

These are photographs of the invisible. People who once lived in these spaces left after the Soviet Union collapsed and the Russian occupation of Hungary came to an end. Camera in hand, I walked through the spaces that were once homes, filled with the memories of forgotten occupants. Their spectral presences gaze upon me, with a gaze that I cannot return, as I invade their privacy. Though the windows are smashed and doors knocked down, and often the walls themselves are disintegrating, nevertheless the presence of those private places is not yet absent.
