Ghost Cat

Often referred to as the ghost cat, the snow leopard is now as endangered as the tiger with perhaps only 4,000 of these elusive big cats still surviving in the wild.

For millenia, humans have coexisted with wildlife practicing nomadic pastoralism, herding sheep and goats, cattle, horses, yaks, and camels. Mongolia represents one of the last strongholds for the snow leopard.

As eager and competing economic interests destroy their habitat and its prey, snow leopards are now resorting to killing livestock, in turn encouraging herders and communities to resort to retributive killings.
