White-Red is study of an everchanging nation's self-image, shown through a prism of how a comunnity relates to its national symbols. For the author, to analyze a political and a cultural transformation means to thoughtfully document processes of en erosion and a growth of social bonds. By temperament, Marek Lapis is an ethnologist, an archeologist, an archivist, and a historian. The photographer took 9 years to complete White-Red. Early on in his project, the flag turned from an object of study into a keyword for an analysis, of the transfof collective identities in Poland.Sacrum and profanum
