This series was photographed on Swain's Lane in London at the Urban Hill Climb on September 29th, 2018. The discipline of hill-climbing has been around for longer than any other annual race, with top riders requiring a great power to weight ratio, a good aerobic threshold, a light bike and the ability to leave nothing on the road. This series aimed to capture the moments after completion, when lactic acid overwhelms the riders, huge waves of exhaustion and nausea kick in - and they enter their own, very personal 'pain cave'. I wanted to show the power and intensity of this short period.
