Bordo de Xochiaca

For several decades, tons of garbage have accumulated in the Bordo de Xochiaca, a gigantic
garbage dump on the outskirts of Mexico City. In the image, a 'pepenador' (garbage
collector) carries with the strength of a horse part of the merchandise collected. After a
hard day, workers manage to earn between 5 and 10 dollars a day.

(*) The image was taken in 2014. Today, after several complaints of animal abuse, the
horses have been replaced by motorized carts.
