The Awakening Photograph is part of a self-portrait series called
Blooming. This series of photographs, from the photographer
Mariana Fogaça, is about awakening her soul and blooming away
from feeling suffocated and lost in her own mind, doubts and
fears. It’s about self-encounter, knowledge and acceptance.

The photographs depict the feeling of manipulation and distress
between Mariana’s mind and soul.

The roses represent the artist’s inner self, spirit and essence. To
boom is to re-birth.

The background is dark, rough and has a subtle erase mark that
symbolizes the end of an overwhelming moment, as well as the
start of a new beginning.

This photograph was achieved with long exposure and real time
overlays. The outcome was impossible to control, since, the
process was fluid, real, expressive and spontaneous. Minimum
post production has been done.
