10 years old Yang Lin from the village of Nandai, located in the
Dulongjiang (Dulong river), western Yunnan provine, China.
Yang Lin is one of the Dulong ethnic group, one of the smallest ethnic
groups in China. His village is one of the last two old villages in the
valley, as most of the other people moved to new villages built or
them by the Chinese government. The village of Nandai is the only
place in the Dulong river which has not been connected with a bridge,
and that is not likely to change. As a result, the people need to croos
the river using a cable and a rope.
In the photo, Yang Lin is demonstrating how he crosses the river by
himeself, when going to school or back home.
