Each Mote of Floating Dust A Star

Instead of the world above ground, I found one below, concealed in a
shallow pool at the back of the wood. I usually photograph water
using time exposures; without movement I looked to see what else
might be possible. From a series of in-camera multiple exposures, this
image explores the contrasts between the reflected sun and its halo of
dark water; each mote of floating dust becomes a star around a moon.
New worlds await, the only pre-condition for entry a little imagination.

When I chose Reflections of Truth as a title a few years ago, I had in
mind the Japanese for ‘photograph’ - shashin, a faithful reproduction.
Some truths, while literal, can be distorted or strange. I now see it
differently – I have the means at hand and the vision to create my own
truths; to explore and to enjoy the art that can be found in water.

Michela Griffith’s abstract images celebrate the beauty and diversity of water in motion, and its ever changing interaction with light, land and season. This ‘Liquid Light’ has also inspired her to experiment with movement in and through the landscape. By working locally she has developed a clear vision and a distinctive style. Michela’s individual interpretations of water have led to a number of solo exhibitions.

"The river has been my conduit: it has sharpened my vision, given me permission to experiment and continues to introduce me to new ways of seeing.”
