J’ai plus de souvenirs que si j’avais mille ans

  • Photographer
    Pietro Baroni, Italy

“I have more memories than if I'd lived a thousand years” wrote
Baudelaire.
We all have unmentionable, unspeakable thoughts that we
ourselves fear.
We all have worries and anxieties we want to hide from the
others’ sight. Or that we wish they could be seen, to be rescued.
These thoughts are so deep and intimate that are not visible to
the outside world. They are transparent to the others.
But we do have them. We carry them on our skin, every single
day.
I have tried to bring these fears to light. I have tried to highlight
and collect them. With this work I want to make decipherable
the invisible thoughts and worries we do have tattooed on our
body, but that nobody usually sees.
I have asked the portrayed people to think about and feel these
fears, these uncertainties, these thoughts, so that I could catch
them.
This is a selection of 5 portraits (of 44).

Pietro Baroni (1977) is an artist and photographer born and raised in Italy, currently based in Milan.
His work focuses on contemporary social and philosophic issues.
He holds a degree in Natural Science for which he carried out a research project on lions in Tanzania and for five years he has also been a geological and naturalistic guide in Iceland and Morocco.

He has always had a big passion for photography: initially photographs went hand in hand with his globe trotting lifestyle allowing him to create reportages for important editorial publications like Panorama Travel, Bell’Europa, Bell’Italia and Marie Claire.
He visited Sarajevo several times after the war for humanitarian purposes and recently he has recently completed an in depth reportage about Power Stations in Italy on behalf of Alpiq and is currently working on three different artistic conceptual projects characterized by social and philosophical implications.
He loves to work on faces and on their emotional implications through an accurate analysis physiognomy: the subjects of a portrait are active and changing elements and often photography can capture interesting tears in the spirit.
Another social-related project is "Milan Closets", for wich he won an Honorable Mention in the 2012 International Photography Awards (IPA), People Lifestyle Category.

Besides editorial assignments and publications, he has done corporate work for clients and Agencies such as:

- Apliq, Zurich;

- ABB, Milan;

- Young & Rubicam, Milan;

- Fondazione Corriere della Sera, Milan;

- Schindler, Zurich;

- Burson-Marsteller, Milan

Pietro loves cinema movies of all kinds, regional cuisine, NBA, and quotes of Federico Buffa. If he could live a different life, he would only swap with an extreme mountain climber: one who pushes his mental and physical limits and makes discovers.
