“HOUESCAPE” is a portmanteau ward mixed with “house”, “scape”
and “escape”.
I was brought up in 70’s when whole nation was about to be
turned into modern life style in Japan. While it’s movement was
convincing and welcomed by many people for bright future, it
seemed to me quite brutal in terms of environmental and cultural
context, especially towards old Japanese houses and landscape,
and now it’s turned into critical condition.
So, I kept thinking how to make it best balance between
destructive and preservative matter, its thought can be adapted to
many issues. Therefor, I took it account and started this project.
So I cut up good old Japanese house and landscape to transfer
them into modern art format, in order to describe how much
capability or possibility the old Japanese wooden house has in
modern context, in which idea relate to deconstructive or
postmodern theory.
