A private lost in thought in the back of a Blackhawk. He's been shipped
to his first deployment near the cloud forests of Taraza. The ELN army
has been suspected of absorbing dissenting FARC guerrillas in the area
who outright refuse a negotiated end to their struggle.

This series looks at how Colombia's military is evolving into a post-
conflict fighting force. Half a century of fighting an enemy in the
wilderness is being replaced by the defense of the environment and
shutting down illegal mining operations. Though certain guerrilla
groups have renounced a peace process and instead choosing to
remain in a war footing.
