Ebony was born in the coastal city of Buena Ventura, Colombia.
She is being raised by her grandmother. Her mother has
abandoned her because of her birth defects.
I met Ebony September 2015, when she was selected by a group of
doctors from the USA to receive a free orthopedic surgery. These
doctors come every 6 months to colombia on a medical mission to
offer free surgeries to the under privileged lower classes of
colombia. For Ebonies first surgery The doctors created a thumb
for her on her right hand. In April of 2016 they amputated both
her feet. She will receive prosthesis this August. She has another
surgery scheduled for later this year to create another thumb on
her left hand.
Despite all of Ebony's physical and economic limitations she plays,
cries, and laughs like any other 3 year old.
