The last days

  • Photographer
    Daniel Däppen , Switzerland

What happens when the time remaining in a human life is known?
The first steps of a human being are cheered on, the first smile let
us hope for more. But what is with the last actions? To write the
own name for the last time, signing the own painting, sharing the
own thoughts with the grandchildren for good. A last meal, the
last glass of wine the last warmth with his children, a last
tenderness before you set out for the last trip, alone.
The absolute finality of those moments made me do this personal
project. Teak has decided to stop his life prolonging medical care,
the three times per week dialysis knowing for the approaching
death within four to five days. These pictures are part of a bigger
documentation of these days.
