Under the volcano

  • Photographer
    Nikos Rigopoulos, Greece

A composed series using live models re-enacting the quotidien
life of Ancient Thera - a portrait of Santorini from a time long
lost, from a time before cameras. We all recognize the iconic
Minoan art uncovered on this island - the fisherman holding his
catch of the day, the boxers in sport, the stern mysterious
woman with her arms crossed - but these avatars will become
people again when we see them in the sea and the fields and the
villages, rather than on ceramics or, worse yet, plastic bags and
ashtrays. This series will engage the ghosts of the island and
bring them back to life.
