Light in the Dream

  • Photographer
    Zach Hankins, United States

With this body of work I set out to create a series of images which
are surreal but yet real. The idea is to photograph an image within
an image but without the use of “digital collage” or superimposing
images to achieve this effect.  By building and integrating
installations made of "floating" mirrors into different
environments(with the help of transparent Lucite), I discovered
that I could have "dual landscapes”… even “dueling landscapes”.
With that comes the prospect to mix and match topographies and
environments in intriguing and provocative ways.
What interests me are the effects of the reflections in the mirrors,
which seem to generate a gateway to another place or dimension.
A new reality is presented and I experience the resulting image
like I would a daydream. It denotes the mystery of existence and I
get pulled in by it. This is part of my attraction to the work.
