Synapses

Synapses is a visual interpretation of human experience in
metaphysical terms when responding to the natural environment.
Patterns of light flow throughout the scenery in parallel to the
chemical reactions experienced in the body and brain; they are a
visual metaphor for the patterns created by our synapses sparking
off in the brain through experiencing the rawness of nature.
Beaches, rocks, and rivers along the rugged coastline of Cornwall
set the scene for the series, water playing a key role. The flow
towards the ocean and the fluidity of water itself represents the
cycle of life, rejuvenating and moving forwards. The abstraction of
the landscape is metaphorical for the constant struggle to
understand love, emotion, and existence itself through a
metaphysical worldview; the patterns of light allude to the
philosophical aspect of our psyche, and are visual responses to
those concepts that defy easy explanation.
