Honorable Mention / 2016 / Nature / Seasons

Palace

Palace is from my series “Dappled” where I use the natural landscape to adjust light brightness and color temperature throughout the depth of the photograph. Open patches of sky backlight autumn leaves to intensify their colors, shading from hills turns shadows blue, side lighting accentuates tree trunk volume and bark texture. As I hike the forest, I photograph the dappled dance of leaves through the curves of swamp maple tree trunks and low blueberry bushes.

Diana Barker Price searches for unusual natural lighting and unexpected color combinations when photographing the forest. She works mostly in series, thinking of the images as elements or themes within a larger visual story.

From 2012-2014, Diana received national and international recognition for her photographs, including First Place and Honorable Mention Awards from International Photography Awards (IPA); selection for Soho Photo Gallery’s National Exhibition; and People’s Choice Award, Honorable Mention and Third Place Award from Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3).
