Nepal Earthquake

On April 25th 2015, central Nepal was struck by an earthquake
measuring M7.8. As of May 8th, in Nepal and the surrounding
countries, the death toll has exceeded 8,000 and approximately
560,000 homes have been destroyed or damaged. Rows of old
houses built from bricks and wood have crumbled, leaving
towns and villages in ruins. Residents have put up tents in the
empty spaces, while many of the victims are carried to the
morgue to be cremated. Whole villages have disappeared in the
mountainous areas where damage has been severe. Lacking
roads fit for vehicles, many rural area have yet to receive any
emergency food or supplies, let alone grasp the extent of
damage.

Yuki Iwanami was born in Nagano, Japan in 1977, and started his career as a photographer and journalist in 2001. He covered stories in Cambodia, the Balkans, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Then he has joined staff photographer of the Japanese newspaper from 2003. He was based in Tokyo and Sendai, is now in Osaka temporally, covering domestic and world’s news and stories. He keeps covering the stories about the disaster of Tsunami and nuclear power plant occurred in Japan in 2011.
